We try Dishoom’s new menu

The Indian institution that never misses

Dishoom is an institution. Full stop. It’s earned its place as a go-to spot for Indian food across the UK, and let’s be honest, they put the bacon naan on the map. What we love most about Dishoom isn’t just the endless chai refills, it’s the consistency, something that’s notoriously hard to nail in hospitality. From the food to the service, it’s always on point, and it’s become one of our most reliable spots in town.

Now, fourteen years and countless naans later, Dishoom has just done something BIG and made the most significant menu update since opening. If you’re a Dishoom fan, you’re probably wondering—is my fave dish safe? Don’t worry, the iconic Black Daal hasn’t gone anywhere, something that we verified by taking a trip to the Shoreditch location (our fave of the bunch) to check out the new dishes.

Eat This

Inspired by a recent trip to Bombay, Dishoom’s chefs have dived deep into the city’s vibrant food scene, and the new dishes reflect that energy. First up is the Chota Papad, bite-sized six-sided poppadom puffs with a kick of spice, served alongside Dishoom’s homemade mango chutney. Warning: you will eat the whole plate.

Next, the Up-to-Date Pau Bhaji. It’s got a chunkier texture now, made from a mix of leftover veggies (a zero-waste hero), and it’s even more comforting than before. Then there’s the new Goan Monkfish Curry with tender, perfectly cooked monkfish swimming in a hot and sour sauce. It’s destined for stardom, right next to the Chicken Ruby and Black Daal. Also, do yourself a favour and order the flaky Masala Paratha topped with mint, chaat masala, and butter.

Sadly, we didn’t have the stomach capacity to try everything but you’ve got to save room for dessert. The Orange Caramel Custard is giving Terry’s Chocolate Orange vibes and is basically Christmas on a plate.

Drink This

With sours, punches, breakfast tipples, teetotal options and more, Dishoom’s drinks list really does have something for everyone. The Pitaya-Papaya Colada, with dragon fruit, pawpaw, coconut cream, pineapple juice and Bacardi Carta Blanca is a tropical dream. For something a little more subtle, try the Pink Shiso Sprit. Made with Tanqueray Rangpur Lime Gin, sparkling wine, shiso cordial and soda, it’s perfect if you’re after something light but still fancy.

Why Go

You go to Dishoom because they’re consistently excellent. The food? Always great. The service? Slick but personal. Whether you’re grabbing breakfast, having a chilled date night, or catching up with friends over dinner, Dishoom nails it every time. And with this new menu, they’ve just taken things up another notch.
