Comedian Kurt Sterling is making his Ed Fringe debut with his show “Corporate Chronicles.” He jokes that the small, dingy room he’s performing in is like something from the Saw movies.
Sterling’s show shares his journey from a rural childhood to a high-flying corporate career that took a toll on him mentally and physically, before he decided to ditch the big bucks for a career in comedy. While his choice may be frequently questioned due to the tough nature of comedy, tonight, the small audience, which includes some fellow Australians (and an enthusiastic participant whom Sterling jokingly refers to as a paid actor) is fully engaged. The show features a times table face-off, a reveal about Sterling’s upbringing in Woy Woy (best known for water and as the butt of Spike Milligan’s jokes), and despite a few instances where delivery falls short, Sterling proves to be a great comedic storyteller with a highly relatable show. He establishes a good rapport with the audience and overall, he demonstrates that he’s an exciting new talent who should be on comedy fan’s radar.
