Sewists Picnic Palooza

The event is inspired by our mutual love of the summer season and picnics outdoors. Picnics are such a whimsical and lovely way to hang out with your nearest and dearest and what better way to come together as a community than with a picnic-themed event? The beauty of the Sewists Picnic Palooza is you can join in online, in the comfort of your own home, or meet up with a sewing buddy, the choice is yours.

Picnic Vibes

Before I get into sewing pattern suggestions I thought I’d collate together some visual inspiration of picnicy vibes. The aesthetic can be as extra or simple as you want it to be. Either a little al fresco garden picnic, with a cup of tea and snacks, or the works with an outdoor table set up, yummy food, and music playing. Whatever theme you’re going for, it’s nice to get fancy or dress up for the occasion.

Picnic Themed Makes

For anyone wanting to treat themselves to a new make, I thought I’d collate some sewing pattern suggestions that are perfect for picnics. I’ve also been trying to decide on a pattern to make and below are a few I have loved and recommendations from a story box I posted on Instagram. There are some really beautiful sewing patterns but I could only pick out a handful, so I hope you find something you love.

Picnic Sewing Patterns

Sewing patterns above:

  1. The Tilly Button Mabel Dress, it’s a beautiful sewing pattern for summer, and the shirring detail would look wonderful made in a gingham, or floral fabric.
  2. New Craft House Every Day Waistcoat, this is a pattern I recently made which you can see on my YouTube channel. It’s a lovely outwear layering piece, that when quilted and made from pretty fabrics would look wonderful layered over a blouse and jeans, or a long-sleeved dress.
  3. Sorrento Bucket Hat by Elbe Textiles is another great accessory to sew up in the afternoon if you don’t fancy making a new garment! Use up scrap fabric or make a matching hat to an existing me-made garment.
  4. The Lora Dress by True Bias is one of their new sewing patterns and I have it printed out and ready to make. It’s such a lovely style that can be made in a long sleeve or skinny strap dress. It features the most beautiful button up front, perfect for using some of my buttons, that you can shop here.
  5. Veronika Skirt by Megan Neilson is a lovely choice if you want to make separates. It’s a beautiful full skirt, great for retro vibes.
  6. Tilly and the Buttons Lyra dress is another lovely dress choice. It has a button-up front and collar, which is cute and practical. I love Tilly and the Buttons patterns and they always come together perfectly.
  7. Tammy Dress by Fibre Mood was close to being the pattern I was going to make, but I didn’t have enough fabric. It’s a beautiful dress with the option for a long or short sleeve.
  8. Last but not least, the Bloomfield Dress by the Petite Dressmaker. This dress looks absolutely beautiful and I just brought it myself. I’ll be making this one before summer is over, for sure!

Let’s all have a picnic!

The Sewists Picnic Palooza is only a couple of weeks away now, so I hope you’re getting as excited as I am! It will be such a fun day, and hopefully full of sunshine. Have you planned what you’re wearing yet? Let me know if you choose one of these pattern suggestions! I can’t wait to see your makes and join in on the day.
